A stakeholder is a person or organization of interest for or whom are interested in the project on hand. It is therefore important for the project manager to manage and be sure what the stakeholders opinion is to the topic at hand.

Communication and networks are two essential parts of projects that often can be neglected for project planning and project managing.
One way of looking at the stakeholder is through a network perspective where every stakeholder I connected to the project but some of the stakeholders might also be connected to one and another.

Managing people issues in projects using Network Diagram is a good way of keeping track of whom are the right people to manage in a project.

Since a project always concerns different stakeholders and different people who needs to interact with each other it is always important to keep track of whom are linked to whom. A stakeholder is defined in the ISO standard 21500 from 2013 as ''person, group or organization that has interests in, or can affect, be affected by, or perceive itself to be affected by, ant aspect of the project'' <ref> Dansk Standart. The network diagram is a way of indicating the connection between people, organizations or other groups or things that might be indicated in a network.
By that definition the stakeholders will include many people, organizations and some of them whit more or else degree of uncertainty and interest.

The network contains in the basic of nodes and edges.
Since there is so many stakeholders possibly involved in a project stakeholder management and mapping is essential in order to keep every stakeholder within the project satisfied.

Nodes representing the people, organizations or groups.
Because it is never an option to give every stakeholder the same amount of attention it is important to categorise whether the stakeholder is important by looking into the amount of power and the interest the stakeholder have in the project.

What can then be added as indicators is the size of the node, showing what ever attributes connected to the node.

Then the size of the edge between two nodes can be used to indicate the connection between the two.

===Power/Interest diagram===

The power interest diagram is an simple tool that gives the project manager the overview of the power and interest of an stakeholder.

The diagram is designed so that the power of an stakeholder is indicated at the x axcel and the interest is indicated at the y axcel.

Then by putting in the power and the interest of an stakeholder the diagram indicate what approach should be used on the stakeholder either ''Keep Satisfied, Manage Closely, Monitor or Keep Informed''.

By doing this trying to avoid any complications and any problems such as delays because of the stakeholders.

The indication given by the stakeholder diagram is normally only based on the connection between an stakeholder and the project but not the connection between the stakeholder and other stakeholders.

This connection is best indicated by using a Network diagram.

Introduction to Network mapping

The network diagram is a way of indicating the connection between people, organizations or other groups or things that might be indicated in a network. The network contains in the basic of nodes and edges. Nodes representing the people, organizations or groups. Edges is then indicating the connection between the people, organizations or groups.

What can then be added as indicators is the size of the node, showing what ever attributes connected to the node. Examples could be turnover of a company, number of employees in a company or age of a person. Then the size of the edge between two nodes can be used to indicate the connection between the two. Examples of that could be the emails between the two, the deals between to companies or the amount of projects they have worked together.
