Meeting strategies
Abstract
A meeting is a formal or informal event where individuals meet either face-to-face or virtual (by the use of audio or video conference tools). There exists numerous purposes and needs for meetings, often a group of people need to discuss and/or make decisions.
Project managers often need to not only participate frequently in meetings, but also plan, facilitate and evaluate meetings during the entire project life cycle. Meetings revolve around many important activities such as cost, quality and scheduling. There are several guidelines and tools for creating effective and productive meetings. However, research reveals that even though managers spend more than 50% of their time in meetings, many meetings fail[1]. In a study made by Microsoft 69% of the 38.000 participants felt meetings weren't productive [2]
Guidelines and tools can be useful to direct and manage meetings. Guidelines and tools for making a strategy to project meetings is stored in the project's communication management plan. [3] .
