A Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is a fundamental tool within Project management developed in the United States, which shows the project/program as a deliverable oriented hierarchical decomposition. The WBS is represented by a tree structure that shows a project subdivision into phases, deliverables and work packages.

The aim of this wiki-article is to provide to the reader a broad knowledge regarding WBS. Nevertheless, the article will answer the following research questions:

  • Which is its objective?
  • When is applicable this tool?
  • Which are its limitations?
