Abstract

Globalization promotes the exchange of ideas between continents. It also promotes international projects. No one can be everywhere at once and lose hugely time in transport. Nevertheless, language and cultural barriers, difference of time zones, physical distance, Information and communication technologies; these are all the consequences of remote project that make it not easy task to manage. Fortunately, the complexity of this task can be solved with some of the new technologies.

However, remote project management has several positive sides: lower project costs due to technology advancements that bridge distance, improved work/life balance for project team members, increased efficiency and decreased travel time, increased ability to attract top talent. By incorporating several agile concepts, remote project can be managed successfully. However, remote manager should have some skills like a good communication, assessment skills, be reliable and be able to set goals.

Then, insecurity reason for UN aid workers could be one reason that justify this kind of project management. Even if we can’t avoid to have people on a insecure site some elements of coordination (management, fundraising, procurement) can be coordinated from a secure location. As explained, not everything can be done remotely. Moreover, there are some drawback and limitations due to multiple reasons.

Finally, a reflection about some future improvement and a conclusion will be made.
