A stakeholder is a person or organization of interest for or whom are interested in the project on hand. It is therefore important for the project manager to manage and be sure what the stakeholders opinion is to the topic at hand.

Communication and networks are two essential parts of projects that often can be neglected for project planning and project managing.
One way of looking at the stakeholder is through a network perspective where every stakeholder I connected to the project but some of the stakeholders might also be connected to one and another.

Managing people issues in projects using Network Diagram is a good way of keeping track of whom are the right people to manage in a project.
By identifying the power that each and every stakeholder have and the link between the different stakeholders it is possible to observe what dangers there might be in a less powerful stakeholder might have of possibilities if they are close connected to a powerful stakeholder.

Then by putting in the power and the interest of an stakeholder the diagram indicate what approach should be used on the stakeholder either ''Keep Satisfied, Manage Closely, Monitor or Keep Informed''.

The indication given by the stakeholder diagram is normally only based on the connection between an stakeholder and the project but not the connection between the stakeholder and other stakeholders.
